Grosse Point Blank

Directed by George Armitage, and starring John Cusack, Joan Cusack, Minnie Driver, and Dan Aykroyd, this movie is inspiring. The movie takes place in a suburb of Detroit, Grosse Point, where a myriad of sub-plots are coming together. Martin, a hit man,  is given an assignment in his old home town, to take place during his 10 year high school reunion. While there he finds that he is being followed by two NSA government spooks that Martin’s rival Grocer has put onto his tracks. As if this wasn’t enough, a hit man is in town with a contract on Martin’s life for a botched job where it was perceived that Martin killed a rich man’s prized dog Budro!

Through the course of the movie Martin is faced with his ever growing apathy for his current profession, and his rekindled love affair with Debi Newberry (Minnie Driver). Martin has promised his shrink that we would NOT kill anyone while in town, but after finding his childhood home “Torn down in the name of convenience ” he runs into the other hit man. During the ensuing fire fight the Ultimart is destroyed!

If this wasn’t bad enough Grocer (Dan Aykroyd) and the two spooks are trying to kill not only Martin’s target but Martin too! Finally determined that he should do his job and leave town (SPOILER ALERT!!!) he finds that his target is in fact his loves father. Now Martin must give up his ways and save his love and her family.

This movie has some of the best dialog (and writing in general) that I have ever seen. If you are in the mood for a classic black comedy check this out, it is currently on Comcast ON DEMAND and Netflix
