ZombieLand – 2009
Written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick and directed by Ruben Fleischer this movie is bound to be a mainstream and cult classic. Starring up and comer Jessie Eisenberg and main liner’s like Bill Murray and Woody Harrelson this movie has a little of something for everyone (except the kids!)
We are brought into the movie by Jessie’s character Columbus. He explains a little about himself, and how the world has ended up as Zombieland. Columbus explains that the reason a World of Warcraft playing shut-in has managed to stay alive is through strict living by his rules.
Columbus is leaving Texas for Ohio; on the way he meets us with Tallahassee (Woody). Tallahassee is a self proclaimed ‘Zombie Ass Kicker!’ Columbus decides that since they are both heading east, they might as well head there together.
Along the way, the two of them get to talking, we the audience are given insights through Columbus’ internal monologues.
‘Tallahassee had a sick sense of humor when it came to zombies. Zombies aren’t the most lovable creatures, but he really hated them. In fact the only thing he obsessed over more than killing zombies, was finding a Twinkie.
The story takes a twist when the two meet Wichita(Emma Stone) and Little Rock(Abigail Breslin). These two young ladies have made it through life scamming others. True to their style, they take Tallahassee and Columbus for everything they have… which isn’t much in Zombieland.
I can’t go much further without ruining the plot, so I’ll end with this; This is one of the best zombie movies I have seen in a long time. I would have to call it a ‘Black Comedy’ up there with ‘Murder by Death.’ If you are jonesing for a zombie movie that will make you laugh, cry, and possible blow chunks, this is it!
