I was a huge fan of Boondock Saints, absolutely LOVE the first movie, and couldn’t wait for the impending release of the sequel … and then a dreaded thing happened … I WATCHED IT! It is seriously one of the most disappointing movies I have EVER seen. It was mildly amusing at times, but very predictable. Not to mention the lighting, cinematography, directing etc. … HORRIBLE! I have made it a point to save anyone willing to listen, the disappointment they would have for seeing such a film. And if you had to actually pay for it you’d be ready to shoot someone yourself … and not from saintly motivation either.

Here’s the long and short of it: Starts out with the retired ‘Saints’ being told that a priest was killed back in Boston in the same manner as the murders years before. They get pissed; they seek retribution (sounds good so far). Sidekick replaced by some weird anglomexican jackass who can’t even really be seen as the comic relief. He’s tedious more than anything. A hot wannabe ‘Agent Starling’ comes into the picture, for no other reason than to be hot I guess. And together they all hunt a midget hit man who’s hired by a ‘ghost’ to lure them back to town. Then Dah eventually shows up to reveal it’s him the ‘ghost’ is after (which is shared through a series of poorly shot flashbacks) and together they stir up a big *YAWN* gunfight. Can’t say anything more about that without giving it away (just in case you DON’T take heed and actually go out and watch this monstrosity). The end just draaaaaaagged on. Seriously, just when you think you can’t take Anymore …. it cuts to a scene that should have been CUT in order to make a lame attempt to set it up for a trilogy … working for the Vatican? Oh goody.

I guess the most disappointing part is that it was written, directed, blah blah blah by Troy Duffy; same chap who did the first one. I guess some people only really get one good idea then quit. I was hoping he wasn’t one of ‘those’ guys, but it looks like that was just wishful thinking. The original will stay in my collection as a beloved favorite for sure, but the sooner I can get this pitiful embarrassment-to-film out of my memory, the better!

When I was younger I didn’t have much care for reading. My English skills were just fine, I had an exponentially greater vocabulary and grasp of grammar than most my peers. It wasn’t until I was VERY bored (I didn’t play video games growing up) that I started digging through the closet to find something to do. I came across a box set of books my mom had. Beautiful imagery covered the box and I marveled as I read the titles of the stories:

The Rift War Saga: Magician Apprentice, Magician Master, Silverthorn, and A Darkness at Sethanon.

I cracked open apprentice and my whole view of fictional stories changed!

I was introduced to Pug, of the town Crydee, on the world of Midkemia. I learned of this orphans friends, family, and his rise from orphan to an apprentice mage and squire of the royal house. We are brought into a world that resembles 900 CE Earth.

We are introduced to Kulgan, the royal magician and his franklin Meecham. We meet Tomas, Pugs friend and adopted brother, and these youngsters dreams and ambitions for the future. Tomas wish to be the greatest warrior Midkemia has ever known. Pug too has aspirations to become a great warrior, but these plans are foiled when standing alone on the day of choosing (when Masters choose their apprentices) he is picked by his friend Kulgan to become a magician.

After struggling for many months, Pug learns there is something inside him that does not like to use magic in the way Kulgan is teaching. Pug has only successfully cast even the simplist cantrip under dire stress.

Before being able to study much farther, Tomas and Pug are requested to accompany the Duke Borric to the capitol of the kingdom Rillianon. On the way there the group is ambushed by otherworlders. Tomas is seperated from the group and left to find his own way.

I could dribble on about this story, and believe me there is much to speak of, but I think maybe you should just go pick up a copy and see for yourself. Enjoy <insert Reading Rainbow Theme Song>

This is one of the best Christian themed movies in the last 5 years. I was blown away by the ‘Fallout 3′ style cinematography, the wonderful use of lens filters, and great scene transitions.

This master piece was directed by Albert Hughes (Hughes Brothers) and stars Denzel Washington(Training Day and Fallen), Gary Oldman (Leon The Professional and The Dark Knight), Mila Kunis (That 70’s Show and Extract), and Jennifer Beals (Lie to Me).

I was very impressed with the way the story was played out (both visually and intent) it really does have a post apocalyptic feel with very bold imagery. I hate to come back to it again but a lot of the earlier shots in the film remind me of ‘Mad Max’ meets ‘Fallout 3′

My hats off to Gae Buckley and Don Burgess (who has shot some of my favorites (to list a few Forrest Gump, Contact, Cast Away, SpiderMan, My Super Ex-Girlfriend, and Aliens in the Attic.)) Some have called this just another post apocalyptic flick, but I must disagree if not simple for they way it was shot and the way the scenes play together.

Bottom Line: A well-made post-apocalyptic action drama with simple themes and archetypal characters that strains a little too much at Seriousness.

Hollywood Reporter.com

Without spoiling the plot; we are introduced to Eli, who is struggling to survive in a war torn world. We find that Eli is very handy with a bow, and smart enough to collect is arrows when done. Eli has a nice collection of toys including his MP3 Player, a pistol and a shot gun, and a hefty load of ammo (again smart man).

We learn that Eli is making his way west. He has been traveling for 30 years. His mission is to take his prized possession, his book, to a place of safety. He only knows he is to travel west and he will be shown the way.

The depth of the characters isn’t exceptionally deep, however it sets firm archetypes and makes for very easy transition through the story. Relative new comer Gary Whitta has certainly caught my attention and I look forward to seeing ‘Akira‘

I suggests for believers and not you should see this film, everyone will take something from it. I’m very happy to see an action movie that can still instill morals.

Other than it is the goriest movie I’ve seen in a long time. In fact I’m hard pressed to think of a movie that was more gory than this. Aside from all the blood this movie has a pretty good plot line.

Trained since childhood to be a lethal killer, Raizo has since turned his back on the Ozunu clan that raised him and now seeks revenge for their heartless murders. Teaming up with Europol investigator Mika, Raizo steadily butchers his enemies while inching ever closer to the long-awaited bloody reunion with his former master.

Starring Rain, from such as Speed Racer, as the leading role of Raizo, this action packed film has no time to let you rest. Something I must admit I loved about this movie…. while there was a strong romance and true love undertone, there were no gratuitous love scenes!

There is a lot of good research that went into making the ninja back story, and I’m glad for it. I hope to see more like this in the future.

If you are a fan of no holds barred, shocking, thrillers, this is a movie for you! Written by Michael Cooney, writer of such flops as Jack Frost, and Jack Frost 2 this is a happy surprise. Something I must rave about this movie is the director of cinematography Phedon Papamichael. Phedon has done such hits as 3:10 to Yuma, The Pursuit of Happiness, and Walk the Line.

This movie opens with psychiatrist going through case files on one Malcolm Rivers. Malcolm is a very disturbed man suffering from disassociated personality disorder, also known as multiple personality disorder. We are then taken into the lives of 10 individuals that have all become trapped in a desolate Nevada motel.

Stop me if you’ve heard this one; a limo driver, a movie star, a mother, child, and step-father, a cop escorting a convict, a hooker, a young couple and a hotel manager, are all hold up in a motel…

From this point on, people start dying, and we are taken on the trip of a life time as we are left to find, who done it!

Starring John Cusack, Ray Liotta, Amanda Peet, and Clea DuVall this movie will have you on the edge of your seat for the whole ride. Please enjoy as this movie will keep you guessing
