Ironman is the latest in the slew of Marvel Comic based movies, and it may be the best one yet. Starring Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, billionaire playboy and CEO of Stark Industries, makers of the best and most advanced weapons in the world. When the movie starts we find Tony Stark living a worry free life, secure in his belief that his weapons are helping to keep the world safe and protect American lives. That is until, in a scene that is very intense and bloody for a Marvel movie, his military convoy is attacked by Stark Industry made weapons and he is wounded and taken prisoner. Forced by his captors to make a devestating weapon, he instead crafts his first Ironman suit to break free. The rest of the movie follows Tony as he makes his transformation from carefree billionaire to superhero. The movie contains strong performance both Gyneth Paltrow, Terrence Howard and Jeff Bridges, but it’s Robert Downey Jr. who steals the show playing Tony with humor and intensity while keeping the character very real. Fans of the comic should be happy since the movie sticks very close to it’s roots and captures the tone of the original very well. Mark 1,2 and 3 versions of the ironman suit are all featured in the movie, and there is even a tease at another character possibly donning one of Stark’s suits. (With two sequels already in the works, that is a definite possibility). Director Jon Favreau really delivered in his first big budget picture and all of the cast is signed up for the sequels, so look for this franchise to continue strong. If you are a fan of the comic, or just great action movies, Ironman is a must buy.
